2009 Porsche Cayenne GTS review
Porsche has come with its new model the Cayenne GTS. BMW claims that its X6 is the sportiest SUV ever of its class but Porsche is now in competition as it is also a SUV. It has a 4800cc engine with a maximum speed of 157 miles/hours. It has the features in-between the 46k pound and the 74k turbo. GTS combines both the features along with some distinctive features build on its own.
It is never going to win any beauty contest for sure, with its huge size weighing more than 2.5 tonnes. Porsche launched its first sporty SUV with a orange color which shows the sign of it supreme confidence. Power of the car comes from a naturally aspirated 4.8l direct injection v8 up to 405 hp which is just 20 more than the S. The sporty car attained 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds on a straight road. The front end of the car doesn’t get any sportier. The car is been lowered and its alloy wheels measuring 21-inches makes the ride comfortable.
The car is provided with air suspension enabling smooth drive. The steel spring helps in suspension management. Cayenne promises to be a driver focused SUV ever. It comes as automatic transmission. A sports car with automatic shifting options! Weird? But not many people want to change gear for themselves so it is not a surprise. The car is lowered by 24 mm for a sporty layout. With the adjustable ride height and differential locks, Porsche claims it to be the street focused car. Absurd. Cayenne seems to be good on all surfaces and offers enough space for you and your family. A numbers of relays and motors are connected through over a 2000mts of wires which adds to the weight of the car. The best fuel performance would be not more than 100 km for 19 litres. It guzzles enormous amount of gas.
Wondering how Porsche claims it to be a sports car? It is provided with two sports button, one for damping and one for throttle response. It goes pretty well despite how heavy it is. But based on the capability of the engine and the performance of the car, the sports car is really a joke. If you need to pull a ton of load you can buy it. They have put a lot of effort on chassis to make the car drive the way it does. It makes a terrible sound at turns, of course only when at high speeds. The tail kicks out in corners. If you need a good lap time all you have to do is put the car in position, the cayenne does the rest. The chassis engineers should be applauded for that. It stays right on course and its performance at corners is so well. One hallmark of Porsche is direct steering but it is not applicable for this heavy truck. The air suspension with roll stabilization keeps it from titling sideways in corners. It reaches a maximum torque of 500Nm. For the first time Porsche has combine the mechanism of steel coils with active damper regulation. It matches to the stiffness to whichever surface the car is on.
The SUV with the PSM (Porsche stability management) comes up with controlled drive in skidding surfaces. You can drive it in a straight path even when the surface is filled with ice or mud. All you have to do is put the PSM ON. GTS also looks different from other Porsche cayenne with increased acceleration. If you need a super high performance of SUV on the streets, Here it is. Overall Cayenne GTS performance is good.
Interested in buying it? You should be careful with the option it come along after affording it. It cost 57k pounds base price. It doesn’t sound too bad. With all the option it will be around 75k euros which is dangerously close to the price of turbo. It is very loud and makes the drive proud. With over 200k cayenne sold, Porsche will clearly aware of the mark.
The options available with Cayenne GTS are Design Alloys, Sat Nav, Navigation, Adjustable Air Suspension, Xenon lights, PSM, Park assistance, 3 Spoke Multi Function steering Wheel, Colored Porsche Wheel Centers, Navigation System, Premium Sound System Interior, Power steering, Electric Seats, Power windows. Safety options are Passenger airbag, On board computer assisting in parking etc.
Some good and bad facts of the car would be
• GTS upgrades have really improved the performance
• Handles better than any other SUV
• Engine sounds awesome
• Really for attention seekers only
• The fuel economy is aweful
• Most of the options are expensive.
