The Nissan Altima consumes the required amount of power, but the key attraction in this car is the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). It performs a superb job of behaving just like a transmission of fixed gear and also offers excellent economy of fuel. This car is one of the best in the market with its CVT feature. It has a complete system based on a hard drive with constant traffic reports and music storage which is onboard. The display is 4.3 inches and is a color one, which shows the backup camera view and the iPod libraries.

The Nissan Altima has chosen the manual transmission along with a 2.5 liter engine having four cylinders which completely removes the options like iPod integration, fog lights and navigation. The engine makes a horsepower of 170 and a torque of 175 pound-feet. The car achieves a rating called the “Partial Zero Emission Vehicle” which means that the pollutants causing smog are very less. The mileage is rated by the EPA as 32 mpg in the highway and 23mpg in the city.

The CVT will not possess fixed gears and relies on tensioners, pulleys and bands to generate the number of ratios equal to infinite. The car is programmed to inform the CVT about the range of ratios to be used based on the throttle input, engine speed and similar data. The throttle is extremely responsive in almost all the conditions of driving. It delivers a neat push through the engine when the gas pedal is used. Pedal mashing is not necessary when driving in urban areas.

The car responded beautifully when the gas was floored from a stop in quick speed. But, the CVT acquired power to overtake a car. Acceleration is smooth in the absence of fixed gears having no sudden changes in the engine speed. If you lower the pedal to allow a passing car, the CVT will increase the speed of the engine to squeeze more power. A manual mode is available in this transmission. The gears present in this coupe are virtual and their ratios can be programmed to the CVT’s software.

The car has the capability to give you some thrills. When pushed to a rough corner, the car stays calm with the help of the stabilizer bars present in the suspension, which is standard machinery available in all the Altimas. The navigation system based on a hard drive provides all the facilities. The car has a new audio system which is branded by Bose. The upgrade consists of an iPod-focused stereo which has a screen and a large iPod menu button suitable enough to browse the music library of iPod when it is connected.

The iPod automatically connects to a USB port in the console of the car and the same port can act as a USB drive which stores MP3 files. The interface of the iPod is very comfortable to use, but it does not have all the features. The other sources of audio are single MP3 compatible CD player and a satellite radio. The display screen utilizes distinct colors from every audio source and suitable graphics for the background. The audio upgrade of Bose provides a color screen comprising of 7 speakers throughout the car.

For the brand ‘Bose’, the audio quality is bulky and a dumpy sound with sufficient amount of power in it. The quality of sound is amazing and very clear. If you are making a call using Bluetooth, then the screen will display all the phone numbers. But, it fails to import a contact, which enables you to dial the number using the voice command system. The screen pictures a rear camera view, which is stunning in this coupe. But the camera system is primitive with distance lines on the screen.

The Nissan Altima arises from the group of average size cars, but features a classic CVT-based power train and cabin tech options. The navigation system of the coupe and the small screen is great. The iPod stereo focus is one of its best features. The CVT and the design of the coupe are spectacular.
