Deviated Septum treatment
Nasal septum is one which divides the left and right cavity of nasal. This nasal septum should be at the center making both the sides equal but sometimes it totally goes off to one side of the cavity which is known as deviated septum. Thus, one of the nasal passages gets smaller than the other one which can cause various impediments in this situation. The treatment for this nasal septum is surgery and medications.
Symptoms of Nasal:
Congestion and post nasal drips are the first part of treatment for this deviated septum disorder. Even there are a variety of medications for this problem but they are quite not advisable. All these treatment are administered before performing surgery.
When to perform surgery?
Albeit surgery is a good option, this is only done when there is a significant clogged airway and also if the patient is suffering from recurrent sinus infections and repeated nose bleeding.
Medications:
If the patient is administered with decongestants then the blocked airways open up. Running nose is stopped if the antihistamines are administered which also prevents sinus infections, post nasal drip and also other deviated septum related problems. There are sprays too like nasal cortisone which treats the inflammation and also prevents running nose.
Surgery:
The surgery for deviated septum is known as septoplasty. This adjusts the septum at the center of the nose. There are various techniques in this surgery and the technique implementation varies for each and every person depending on the severity of the problem. Mucus drainage and breathing will be normal after surgery. This surgery takes around one to two hours which involves outpatient procedures. Local anesthesia is required.
Post – surgery:
After surgery there will be inflammation and nasal swelling. Some of the rare complications are loss of sense of smell and also shape of the nose changes.
