Gravity Crash (PS3) Review
The ‘Gravity Crash’ is a beautiful shooter with lengthy levels to play for long durations. The Gravity Crash occurs when there is a war going on between two groups and when the forces of one side are completely wiped out; hence they go to a robot attendant to help them. As you are that janitor, you need to complete the missions on 6 planets in all of the 5 solar systems, which in total come to 30 levels for playing in the mode of a single player.
The missions may range from simply collecting precise types of crystals to complicated goals which consists of destroying specific types of structures just before a wormhole appears from nowhere and allows you to complete the mission. There are various collectibles to be collected in each level which are not actually necessary to go to the next level or to accomplish the goal time of each level.
The controls of the game is the major plus point for the nice appeal of this game. The game appears like a dual-stick shooter but not the monotonous one. You have two control schemes which can be described as casual and hardcore schemes. The casual scheme is friendly for those people who have played games like Geometry Wars since thrust and handling are handled by the left stick and the shooting by the right stick.
The hardcore scheme needs you to control thrust and rotation separately while you have to shoot in the direction of your ship’s movement, more like Lunar Lander or Asteroids. Both work fine but the hardcore scheme controls need a lot more precision than the casual scheme controls which will definitely appeal most of you glancing at the demo.
The basic gameplay involves gravity since you have to move in space with respect to the intensity of your ship’s movement getting affected. You can use a shield to protect your ship when it hits something. Also, you can select between a manual shield that has to be turned on and off by you and an automatic shield which will protect you at any point of time when you hit anything. Both the options are quite good.
You have to shoot at any turret, structure or an enemy ship to gain points and also save the stranded men that you can see by floating towards the land slowly till your landing gear is lowered for extra points and other collectibles that you see on the way. When you fly, you will be utilizing the fuel from your tank which needs to be refilled by shooting on fragments of fuel crystal which provides you an additional bonus of renewing your shield also.
Power-ups are also present which should be collected by you to change your gun for shooting in various directions as well as two which gives an extra shot form your unique weapon or an extra life. The game’s campaign involves a standard structure which needs you to complete all the levels in the solar system before you can unlock the next solar system and repeat the same pattern with an arcade twist till the game is finished.
You have a counter, ‘lives’ which resets your score till that point after which if you wish, you can continue to play but cannot continue to reset your progress and hence, you have to start the game from the beginning. This will add another challenge level because the high score that you have made will not stay till you finish all the 30 levels. So, you got to be precise and careful concerning your goal.
The levels you play will be unlocked for the planet mode since it is an additional mode which allows you to play the levels with ease. You have the level editor and the multi-player modes that accomplish the game’s offerings. The level editor is powerful since it has plenty of things included in a level and various settings which can be used to change the gravity to be low or high, music, weather, backgrounds and the mission of your level.
The multi-player level does not have much to be told except that you can have your friend to play with you. The levels you have accomplished can be uploaded online so that others who wish can play although the interface is not simple and easy to use. The game manages to bring the iconic look of ‘Bizarre Creations’ along with the crazy details present.
Right from space grass to the glowing dots, to connect vectors, and the way the ship transforms its shape, everything is simply beautiful. Everything splashes with enormous particles which makes the game a beauty when played in a big HDTV. The music has an amazing electronic style which adds to the visual style also.
Gravity Crash had done a splendid job of rejuvenating the old style shooters based on gravity and has given it a superb visual upgrade. People who see the demo will definitely love it and get stuck to it since the game provides numerous levels, replay value and many more.
