Tea tree oil is got from the plant ‘Melaleuca Alternifolia’. This is an Australian plant and aboriginals of Australia used this plant because of its healing properties. Crushing these leaves and putting on the wound would reduce the burning sensation and also would kill all the bacteria present on the wound. This tea tree oil has antiviral, antiseptic and antimicrobial properties in it. These leaves are used to treat the insect bites, burns, dandruff, lice, acne, psoriasis, yeast infections, eczema and athlete’s foot.

As this oil has healing properties, it is used to treat periodical diseases, heal the sore gums, excessive plaque and bad breath. This tea tree oil is also used in some of the dental products. This oil should not be taken to stomach. If this oil is taken then it causes diarrhea, invulnerable suppression, intense drowsiness and even the person may go to coma. Thus, only diluted tea tree oil should be used in mouth and after its usage, mouth should be completely clean and should be rinsed well.

Things needed to take care of dental health are a cup of warm water, tea tree oil, toothpaste and toothbrush. The following steps are to be followed:

  1. 3 drops of tea tree oil should be added to a cup of lukewarm water and it should be blended well.
  2. The solution should be whooshed in the mouth for a few seconds and it should be spitted out.
  3. After spitting the solution out, the mouth should be rinsed thoroughly without letting even a tinge of tea tree oil inside because if its swallowed by mistake then also its quite dangerous.
  4. This process should be carried out at least 3 times in a day to avoid problems in gum and also to avoid bad breath.
  5. While brushing, single drop of tea tree oil should be added to the toothpaste.
  6. After brushing as usually, mouth should be rinsed well.

Here are some of the warnings and tips to be kept in mind while carrying out this procedure. First of all the labels and warnings on the bottle should be checked out, undiluted tea tree oil shouldn’t be put into mouth, tea tree oil shouldn’t be swallowed, if breast feeding or pregnant then this oil shouldn’t be used and finally this oil can cause growth of breasts in the preteen boys. So, always beware or contact a doctor before using this tea tree oil.
