Scoliosis is a disease related to spinal cord. In this symptom the spine curves to the sideways abnormally. Surgery is the only treatment if this disorder is severe because this disorder can’t be cured by any conservative treatments. Pain is common while recovering from surgery but this pain can be dealt with by doing certain things.

  1. Medication pump: This is a pump which releases the pain after a button is pushed. This is given for 2 to 3days post surgery. Nurses or doctors are not needed for medication of pain.
  2. Pain medication to circumvent: Non steroidal anti inflammatory medications (NSAID) should not be used like naproxen sodium or ibuprofen, aspirin to relieve the pain. They hinder the healing of the bone.
  3. Medication: Once this medication pump is stopped, oral medications for pain relief can be started.
  4. Duration of medication: Lower dosage of pain medications are administered to the adults for weeks or might be even for months after the surgery of scoliosis. For children the pain medication is stopped after 2 weeks.
  5. Activity: By doing certain restricted activities, the pain of scoliosis surgery can be prevented or rather reduced. Physical activities are refrained for at least 3months but walking can be carried out. Frequent rides in car or in public transports should be avoided for at least 6months. Stretching, bending and sleeping on stomach will cause pain too.
