Let me narrate a story of the two PC giants: Dell and HP. One of them performs very well but the other does not. Both of them wish to enhance their PCs with Windows 7.

The CEO of HP, Mark Hurd, stated on the conference call during the fourth quarter of the company that the group of personal systems delivered in Q4, by expanding its leadership in the market by a point or more once again. The Windows 7 is accepted by the consumers very well, especially in the US. That is, to say, two digit points is obtained from the shares in the market in US enterprise and have attained the top position in the market. There are chances of winning if the corporations upgrade their devices to Windows 7. Personal Systems Group (PSG) offered the operating margins which are healthy in spite of the increase in the commodity costs.

The CEO of Dell, Michael Dell, is convincing regarding the Windows 7 and has seen the rise in the component costs. He had mentioned just a week ago that the growth of PC is in the mid-teens.

There might have been an installed base for aging definitely. New technologies at the software, virtualized client, hardware, and the managers of IT know very well that they do not have the capacity to expand the client assets’ life always. It cannot happen all at once, but it might take some 18 months. Dell thinks that they are obtaining or holding share in the exact type of price points. For the cost department, their efforts should extend their ability to stand in competition with the higher side of the price points.

Also, the huge amount of opportunities for the clients is high. There have been large client activity from the last one or two months. The client activity will be higher in the next year. Hence, when they have a peek at their commercial businesses, it was low in the second quarter. It improved by the third quarter. In October, it was really good and they hope that November will be even better.

Hurd claims that they do not generally start up with the prime objective of earning more shares. They only have the intention of fulfilling the customer’s needs. The coverage of sales is increased and hence the performance is good. Secondly, they have improved on their experience of service, which is very important.  In the US also, the coverage of sales is increased. Thirdly, the lineup of products has been announced and the offer is quite attractive. The cycle of upgrade for Windows 7 is large enough to boost all the PC players.
