Huawei M750 (MetroPCS)
Huawei M750 from MetroPCS is a very simple touch screen phone having a 2.8-inch display which is considerably small compared to Finesse. The 2.8-inch screen wont matter much as it does not include a internal accelerometer and hence we have the only option of using it in portrait. The screen displays accurate colors with the range up to 262k with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixel.
The touch interface is responsive and accurate and found easy to use the stylus instead of finger. This can be enhanced by tuning its calibration wizard. At the bottom of display there are four options namely the phone dialer, web browser, metro pcs web store and the screen lock. The dialer has big display numbers making it easy to use.
The navigation keys at the bottom of the screen helps perform function easily. It is not necessary for a touch screen as it can be performed with a simple touch. However it is good to have any way. It is an added advantage for those who prefer using keys. You have the option to launch the menu either by tapping on the screen or through the center toggle button. The keys present looks almost buried as they are flattened with a square shape and enables easy use. However the above cases does not annoy who prefer touch screen as they never bother about it. The back space key and the access keys to contact and call log are useful.
In case of text messaging, it allows with the two basic option either with T9 or with the fully loaded QWERTY keyboard. As the M750 does not have a internal accelerometer, one has to struggle typing in portrait mode. The keys look much smaller in portrait mode which forces us to use the stylus for accurate typing. It would be have been nice if it had the option.
You can personalize M750 with pictures and ring tones and it is also available in the Metro PCS store from you can download it for free.
It is built with a microSD memory card slot, the charging point on its left side and a 2.5mm audio jack and a volume rocker on the right side. The 2.5mm audio jack annoys as it limits the options of using a preferred head set. 3.5mm which is standard would have been better. The stylus can be inserted on the top left corner of the mobile as it has it own storage area. The dedicated camera lens and an loud speaker are situated at the back.
The Huawei M750 is vastly built for its contacts list. It has space for contact list up to 1000 entries with four no’s in each entry along with the corresponding e-mail id, a web address and personal notes. There are grouping option and helps us send messages for a group at a time. The group contacts can be personalized with up to 10 polyphonic ring tones. The phone supports MP3 files and hence the MP3 files can be stored and used. The organizer includes multimedia messaging, a world clock, calculator, tasks denote
The advanced features would include Bluetooth 2.1 and a GPS. The phone has a inbuilt Google map, and supports e-mail and instant messages. The soft wares are available from the Metro PCS store. On the negative side, the phone does not have a HTML page viewer but only a simple web browser, no accelerometer. The presence of HTML browser would have been satisfied.
The audio interface is very simple limiting option only to play, shuffle, stop and repeat. However the internal memory would not be sufficient to play audio tracks. Inserting an external memory card in the slot would facilitate. The internal memory is only 77MB. The external memory has the option of extension up to 4GB.
The camera is only 1.3 MP but not on the annoying side and takes good quality pictures. Four resolution pictures are possible. As a default options like night mode and fire shot is available. What disappoints is that it does not have a cam recorder.
Call quality is decent and had some static disturbances. Overall it is good. Voices from the other side was felt very distant even when spoken close to the mic. Music clarity through the loud speaker was not on the annoying side. It gave decent sound even at full volume. As the phone comes only with the 2.5 mm audio jack, you will be in a compulsion to use the head set it comes with.
The M750 has a standard unit battery life with up to 6 hours talk time and up to 12 days standby time. In the absence of 3G, WiFi, it is pretty ordinary. The phone is estimated for $160 without contract.
Final words would be that the simple touch screen phone, very light in weight and with a decent camera and with its disappointing features like absence of internal accelerometer, absence of HTML browser can be included in the mid market range.
