ms1The ‘MSI X600’ has a display screen of 15.6 inches and weight of 4.6 pounds. The trim framework does not offer any space for an optical drive that is inbuilt and the CPU having an extremely low voltage provides excellent performance. The graceful design of the notebook is attractive and superb. The tapered framework present in black or glossy silver is nice.

The netbook has a DVD±RW burner which is external and if you bring along a USB powered drive, the system weight in total, comes to about 5.5 pounds. The outstanding feature of the netbook is the LED-backlit screen of 15.6 inches having a resolution of 1,366×768 pixels. It produces clear, bright, well-defined images with clarity in text. The panel offers a viewing angle which is wide, for the basic productivity programs of Windows, making the netbook, the right choice for a presentation device having light weight.

But, the viewing angle appears narrow for games and video, the black color fades to gray as you go away from the center axis of the screen. The wide display screen provides sufficient chassis for a keyboard with full size and a devoted number pad. To make space for the number pad, the main keyboard is shifted to the left parallel to the screen’s centre. So, you will have to get adjusted to typing slightly away from the centre.

The keyboard is nice, with keys having a flat-top and their spacing is quite comfy and roomy. But you don’t have devoted multi-media keys on the deck of the keyboard. Beneath the keyboard, the touch pad is present having a decent size and the big deck can fit a larger pad while supporting 2-finger gestures for rotating, zooming and quick scrolling.

The primary features of the netbook are a RAM of 4GB and a hard drive of 320GB. Wireless connectivity is available in 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. You might encounter some problems with the integrated Webcam. The Webcam having a resolution of 1.3 Mega pixels offers accurate colors and great image detail under bright light but with a pinch of motion blur. The quality of the images in a dark room is bad.

But, on the positive side, MSI merges the easy to use ‘Magic-I Visual Effects’ and ‘ArcSoft WebCam Companion’ utilities. While the ‘ArcSoft WebCam Companion’ consists of an interface which is icon-driven to shoot stills and videos and to insert basic effects, the ‘Magic-I Visual Effects’ contains more detailed effects filters which includes Rain Drop, Mosaic and Old Film. The netbook also includes the utility, ‘EasyFace Manager’ for utilizing the cam as a log-on device of ‘Face Recognition.’

The CPU employed in this netbook is an Intel Core processor of clock speed, 1.4GHz. This processor having a very low voltage maintains the heat to the minimum possible while extending the life of the battery. The netbook takes a time of 8 minutes, 46 seconds for encoding iTunes which is good. The processor of single core utilized in this netbook affects the ability of ‘multi-tasking’ of the device. With the GPU of ATI Mobility Radeon, the netbook features some gaming powers.

The netbook scores 2409, a reasonable score in the test, ‘3DMark06’. The netbook’s battery life is pretty good. The 6-cell battery can last for three hours and 20 minutes. In addition to the operating system, ‘Windows Vista Home Premium’ and the utilities of the Webcam, the netbook can pre-load Microsoft Works 8.5, including Spreadsheet, Database and Word Processing applications, Ulead Burn. Now 4.5, trial versions of Norton Internet Security and Microsoft Office and PowerPoint Viewer.

The optical drive that is external consists of a disc which contains Nero 8 Essentials, A nice package of media-creation. Also, you have the S-Bar which features a row containing quick launch icons at the screen’s bottom for Paint, Windows Games and Calculator. The icons hop when you swipe over them, but the icons are located always at the top and interfere while accessing the Windows applications below portion.

The MSI Company provides a warranty for 3 years, which is marvelous. The netbook will not suit people who would require an optical drive that is inbuilt and great performance along with a nice ability of multi-tasking and capabilities of gaming. A person who is looking for average performance with a huge keyboard and screen in the lightest, thinnest package, this netbook is an appropriate choice for you. The netbook is available at a price of $799.99
