Nokia 2720 Fold – black (T-Mobile) Review
Nokia unleashed a cheaper mobile, Nokia 2720 Fold – black (T-Mobile). First we need to talk about its price. It is priced at just 50 pounds. Nokia has signed a contract with T-mobile to offer the Nokia 2720 Fold at 50 pounds. It is slim, flip and attractive mobile. It features some of the advance mobile features like Music player, Video Recording and Bluetooth. Performance is also not so bad either. These entire things make the Nokia 2720 Fold a competitor for both economical and mid range phones.
Design
Nokia 2720 Fold comes in Black and Deep Red Model. Shiny, Glossy and mirror finish makes the phone more pretty and striking. It measures 93 x 46 x 17.9 mm and weighs around 90grams. Though the dimensions and lighter weight are unusual, but the phone is solid and gives the sturdy feeling in the hands with a thick pivot. When we place this handset in light, you will find its plastic coat has been sullied by more number of smudges. It has sharp angles at the top and bottom has carved and rounded corners. The Fold flips up comfortably enough, and the people with large thumb may feel little difficulty in typing.
A 1.36-inch Black and white external display is provided, which shows the time and caller ID and notify you when the keypad is locked. The concern is that you can’t adjust the backlight time, but squeezing the volume rocker will light the clock. The Volume rocker and Nokia charger ports are present on right side of the mobile. In spite of having Music player, Nokia has kept 2.5mm audio jack instead of standard 3.5mm jack, on the left side of the mobile. It is really poor. On the back side of the Fold, 1.3-megapixel camera projects slightly upward.
The Fold opens to a screen and a keyboard. It comes with a 1.8inch screen, which have reasonable resolution of 128X160 pixels and supports 65k colours. Though you can adjust font size, you don’t have option to adjust backlight time and brightness. It has conventional keyboard with four-way navigation pad and central OK key. The screen interface is bit sluggish. The dialing and texting will not be a problem. The backlit keys are big and flush. It provides two default shortcut keys, to access media player and phone’ silent mode. You can alter their functionality in setting menu. The camera can be activated though the menu itself, a dedicated key on D-pad or spine would be more favorable.
Features
Phonebook
You can store 500 contacts including address, an email address and space for each entry for 5 phone numbers. The Fold has the internal memory of 9MB, which will be sufficient to carry out basic functionalities. It doesn’t facilitate memory extention. You also have the option of coupling a contact with a photo. Photos will not display on the external display. Groups are supported here. The Fold’s preloaded 16 polyphonic tones do not couple with the contact, but they will with a group.
Connectivity
The Fold features usual messaging features like SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email and IM. It comes with good web browser ‘Internet Explorer’, which supports WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML. Opera Mini is also available in some regions. It is preloaded with 6 Java games namely Pacman, Tetris, The Oregon Trail and much more. It comes with sophisticated organizer which includes the usual to-do list, alarm clock, calendar and a memo pad, and throws in a timer and stopwatch. The Fold supports POP, IMAP, and STMP e-mail messages, including Gmail and provision for attachments. The email function is modest enough. It has Bluetooth connectivity and GPRS/GSM/EDGE enabled phone. It doesn’t have support for infrared and USB. You can sync and back up the data using a tidbit provided in the phone.
Camera
The Fold is equipped with 1.3 megapixel camera, which has a resolution of 1024x1280pixels. As this is a lower end mobile, you can’t expect a good quality picture from a camera. Pictures are bit modest and you have to admit it. Good news is that the camera has a self timer, convenient 4x digital zoom, basic editing functions and an extra stabilization control. It doesn’t have a flash and a mirror to enable self portraits. You can save images as wallpapers, caller ID photos or icons. You can also record a video at a rate of 15fps in 3GP, MP4 formats. But Video quality also staggers here. You can shot a video for maximum of 2 minutes.
Music
The built-in music player supports AAC and MP3 songs. It has got a stereo FM with RDS feature. You can shuffle songs on the player or repeat them, and mute the audio. Without a dedicated store for easily buying music but as with the camera; the Fold can’t be considered as music phone. It also included with Voice recorder.
Battery
The Fold has Lithium-Ion (860 mAh) powered battery. It offers reasonable battery life of 3 hours talktime and 300 hours on stand by.
Conclusion
The Fold is a really good looking, flip, economical phone. It is offering higher end features like internet, email, camera, music player, Bluetooth connectivity. With the price tag of just 50pounds, it will make the presence in the mobile market.

We bought one, worked well for about 15 days then the speaker started hissing when the phone rang. I Wireless swapped us for a new phone. Tried to access Facebook and needed to have java enabled. I didn’t know how to do that so I called support. They transferred me. The “tech” walked me through it but we discovered there was no java on the phone to activate. I told him we were able to access java sites with the first 2720 but he said we couldn’t have because the 2720 doesn’t support java. Now I find all kinds of java apps on the web. NOKIA HAS ME CONFUSED AND MAD.
