The ‘Nokia 5320 Xpress Music’ is the latest brand among the Xpress Music brand music phones released by Nokia.  Its features and music are excellent and is operated by the new Symbian S60 operating system with FP2. It is tiny, slim and very thin in size. It has amazing voice quality. It is available at a reasonable price and in fact, comparatively cheaper than most S60 phones available. It has all the standard options for connectivity in it. It does not support Wi-Fi connectivity and GPS.

This smartphone is a compact phone with dimensions, 108 x 46 x 15 mm and appears small when kept with other phones having identical features. It has a weight of just 90g and appears like a candy bar in shape. The design is very cute having rounded edges. The smartphone is made from a plastic material and possesses a great build quality. The phone is strong and can tolerate drops of light. The keypad is alphanumeric and of artistic design with big keys which are convenient for use.

The backlight is fairly good through which you can operate the phone in darkness or faint light. The ‘D pad’ is very complacent and merges into the keypad very well. The display screen of the Nokia 5320 has a 2 inch TFT screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 px, supporting 16M colors and a keypad. The size of the screen is very small which makes reading slightly difficult. The quality of display is wonderful with maximum brightness and levels of contrast with rich, vibrant colors. In sunlight also, the clarity is excellent.

At the phone’s top, you have a video call camera, the earphone and a “My Own” button which is used to create shortcuts that are personalized to the desired function or application. The right corner features the volume rocker and the camera button. The left side has 3 keys for music control operations. At the top, there is the Power button to the centre. The bottom portion comprises of the charger slot, the Micro USB slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. At the back, you will find a LED flash of dual mode and a 2 Mega pixel camera.

The Nokia 5320 is operated by Symbian OS along with the software ‘Feature Pack 2’. This is the most recent version of the famous Symbian OS. Feature 2 includes a bunch of new visual, performance and functional enhancements. The 5320 is equipped with a powerful 369MHz  ARM processor and RAM of 80MB at boot up. The operating system is quick and receptive. Also, you do not find any delays in speed while multitasking with several applications.

The ‘User Interface’ has plenty of fun-filled animations. The Nokia 5320 sustains a huge library consisting of Symbian applications- Email Clients, Imaging Apps, Office Applications, Chat Clients, File Explorers and Video and Audio players. The 5320 consists of standard Messaging Apps and Symbian Contacts with small changes. The OS browser that is built in based on the Webkit is fantastic and provides heavy, detailed pages just like you find in your PC. It is all because of the vast capacity of RAM.

The Nokia 5320 might support N gage 2.0 version games on FP2 with the future update. The quality of the loudspeaker is amazing and it supports audio formats such as WMA, eAAC+, AAC and MP3 respectively. The music player looks very simple and convenient for use with five default settings of equalizer preset from which you can select the desired one and add your own presets if you desire. The Nokia 5320 supports A2DP and allows you to listen to streaming music in a wireless network on your Bluetooth headset.

Three music keys are available at the corner that allows you in controlling the music settings with a hit. There is an option for you to connect your headphones to the 3.5mm jack directly without using an adapter. On the 16M color screen, the playback of the video is superb with options for full screen mode on the Real player that is default. Some of the video players can also be installed like DivX player, Core Player or Smartmovie player. The 2 inch screen does not prove to be the right choice to watch videos. Since FP2 is used, zero lags are present in viewing and opening media files.

The Nokia 5320 has a 2 Mega pixel camera of sub standards consisting a LED flash for dual mode. The interface of the camera is great although it fails to sport various options for customization. The autofocus feature is missing in this phone. The pictures are of average quality since the colors are washed out slightly. The video is shot at 15FPS at QVGA resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The quality of video is also not that good. A FM radio equipped with RDS support and Visual Radio application is available and is a user friendly interface that has the ability to autoscan all the stations currently present and store them.

x2

The Nokia 5320 is equipped with various options for connectivity like EDGE, Bluetooth, GPRS, 3G and USB 2.0 version which is shocking to see in a music phone. The IR support is also not available but is an ancient standard which has almost disappeared now. The phone fails to support GPS and hence you need to connect a GPS receiver externally to your music phone.

The accessories available with the smartphone are the handsfree, a Micro USB cable, a charger and a 1 GB MicroSD card. A PC Suite CD and standard manuals and are also provided. The battery is weak with its configuration, 890mAh BL-5B and is capable of providing just 3.5 hours talktime and will last for a day or more with regular usage.

Nokia 5320 is an excellent music phone and has a blend of multimedia capabilities and unique features at a very less price. Its few shortcomings include absence of Wi-Fi and GPS support and size of the screen being small. Other than that, it is a phone that will attract people in large numbers, especially the younger generation.
