Samsung OmniaPRO B7610 Review
The Samsung B7610 has the slider at its side and comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, an AMOLED display of great resolution which measures 3.5 inches, a camera of 5 Mega pixels, unique Xvid and DivX support along with a list of the normal features of expensive cell phones like Wi-Fi, 3G connectivity, GPS and so on. The OS, “Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional”, is a personalized one. The interface, ‘TouchWiz version 2.0’ can not only change the phone’s main menu, home screen and other elements, but also gets deep onto the software and hence, the applications look unique.
The back panel of the Samsung B7610 is classic with its marvelous, red light design elements being reflective. It’s simply wonderful that you might neglect the less dainty face and the bulky size of the handset. The AMOLED display has rich, lively and bright colors, measuring 3.5” and has an amazing resolution of 480×800 pixels. It is equipped with resistive technology. That is any object can be used to rub against it.
The phone has a QWERTY keyboard which is visible as soon as you open the slider of the phone at its side. The buttons are big and arranged in four rows. Two non-standard buttons are available to the Spacebar’s left side. One of them, has a symbol, and is identical to the Menu key found on the keyboards of the PC. This button acts as a menu shortcut which is visible when the phone’s slider is open. It consists of links to your calendar, messages, phone search functions and notes.
The second button having a white arrow etched to it is used for quick switching between applications that are currently active in the background, instead of entering the ‘Task Manager’. The display of the handset is not facilitated to be tilted at some angle. On both sides, you have the screen lock/unlock key, camera shutter and the volume rocker. At the phone’s left portion, there is a button which can be utilized to switch between Life and Work profiles, which are fascinating.
Samsung uses the ‘TouchWiz version 2.0’ interface which is capable of entering into the software’s depth and it’s such a beauty that you would have completely forgotten that the device operates on ’Windows Mobile 6.1’ interface. The home screen has three separate areas to place objects. One of the applications provides you an option to create your own shortcuts for every program installed and hence, stored on the mobile phone.
The W&L button at the left enables you to quickly switch between the available modes- one for your work routine and the other for your normal routine. The second button displays information boxes, which will notify you about the new meetings, emails, snapshots, messages or takes you to airplane mode, shortcuts, Wi-Fi, settings and Bluetooth. Interface elements can be easily changed, hidden or rearranged.
The ‘Mode Manager’ option provides you the option of setting another wallpaper, applications, ringtones, connectivity options and background, setting the mode switcher to automatic and placing more functions on the home screen. When you open the slider, you will be in ‘Landscape mode’ by default and it makes the ‘Composer’ menu visible on screen. It comprises of shortcuts to calendar, notes, emails, search functions and messages.
The ’Contacts’ menu is wonderfully customized and allows you to filter by the first letters with the help of the slider. A personalized screen having large information fields is provided to add new contacts. Various versions of the calendar, messages, file manager and the alarm clock (featuring world clock, stop watch and recurring events which are annual) are very convenient to use. The personalization will not add any functionality, but modifies the background and enlarges the icons for comfy use.
The main menu consists of 10 pages, where you can place your favorite 12 applications. You can find the non-personalized versions of the applications in ‘Other programs.’ You have an application, which is capable of overclocking the processor of the phone and results in four unique frequency settings of the CPU: Normal, Auto, Low and High. The handset features the ‘Opera Mobile Browser’ which allows quick connectivity of the internet via Wi-Fi and 3G.
The camera has a resolution of 5 Mega pixels and features Autofocus. A LED flash is situated at the back panel. The other features available are white balance, ISO sensitivity settings, smile and face detection, a number of presets and color effects. Videos can be shot at VGA resolution, which is not upto the standards. The ‘TouchPlayer’ of the handset unites the video and audio (visualized by a specific artist or album) content available.
It features huge album art and just above, a letter row which allows filtering. If you choose a specific album, all the tracks present are displayed for you to opt for the desired one. You also have the option to change the speed of playback. Videos are navigated in ‘Portrait’ mode, which shows a preview of the frames. The DivX files play comfortably, but not the Xvid files.
To conclude, the phone is capable of proving to be one of the best handsets available when it finally lands in the market. The superb personalization pack of ‘Windows Mobile’ is simply splendid.
