Samsung S5560 Review
Samsung has launched a compact and light weighted handset with modern design, the Samsung S5560. It is definitely a mid range phone. There is nothing innovative in its touch wiz user interface but easy enough to handle. Samsung S5560 would be a better option for you if cannot afford a high end handset. Entry level devices like LG Cookie and Samsung Star are available as an option but they are simple and don’t have much options as that in S5560. The GSM Quad-band phone is capable of global roaming.
There are three main keys below the screen. The send, end and the menu keys. The 3-inch display has a WQVGA resolution and delivers a good screen quality. The phone is comfortable to use and thanks to Samsung for the overall performance. On either side of the phone are the volume rocker, camera shutter button and the screen lock button. It is charged through a micro USB slot located at the top. A 3.5 mm jack by the side of the charging slot give good audio quality and gives options for the user to use his own headset. The back of the phone is plain with only a camera lens and speaker on the top and bottom respectively. It provides quite a good grip.
It has a one finger zoom function. All you have to do is open the images, press at the centre to zoom at maximum. You can move you finger up and down to maximize and minimize it.
The 3.0-inch TFT resistive touch screen displays everything clear and visible for the user. The touch screen uses a touch wiz interface. Its internal memory is only 78MB but the micro SD slot gives the option of extending up to 16GB. Data transfer is applicable with the help of 2.1 Bluetooth.
Samsung S5560 is provided with a 5MP camera gives nice snapshots especially in proper lighting conditions. Colors are slightly saturated but not annoying. Flash helps in taking indoor pictures and helps avoiding blurrier and noisier images. It is better to avoid taking photos in dark conditions. The camera is enhanced with auto focus, smile detection and noise detection technology.
S5560 however limits options in its video capturing features. The video quality is not up to the mark since the maximum allowed resolution is QVGA whereas for snap shots it is WQVGA as mentioned above. The overall quality of the video is not considerable. The audio player has a pleasing interface. The 3.5mm jack allows to plug in our own head phone pad. The overall sound quality is not irritating even during prolonged listening.
Home screen can be personalized with widgets and shortcuts to various functions. It takes some time after personalizing for the relative information to get updated especially when registered with more online services. The main menu consists of three pages with numerous functions. The phone does not comes 3G but comes with WiFi making the browsing faster. Browsing speed might not be higher but it is definitely up to the mark, however opening heavier pages is not recommended unless connected through WiFi, as it is the highest connectivity option available with the phone. The browsing screen looks similar to that of Samsung Jet. Apart from WiFi browsing option is made possible with EDGE.
The screen keyboards are quite handy to use. Despite the relatively small display it detects the keys pressed even when operated with thick fingers. Its display can be zoomed by double tapping on the screen or by keeping the fingers pressed. The battery is robust and keeps the mobile operational even for 2 days when moderately used. It has a talk-time of 8 hours and a stand-by time of almost 30 days. The battery performance is overall satisfied.
The phone is already for sale which was released in mid Nov 2009 with the price of approximately US $420.
