Sony Ericsson Naite Review
The ‘Sony Ericsson Naite’ is an entry level mobile phone with 3G and green references. The phone is constructed using materials that can be recycled, shipped without a user guide and features a charger which will reduce the consumption of power. The Sony Ericsson Naite can be named as the first mobile phone containing a ‘GreenHeart.’
The Naite is similar in looks to the other low-end devices of the company. But the casing is made of upto 50% recycled plastic. It does not affect the build quality in any way. The phone feels solid and inspite of containing recycled materials has a shiny bezel which surrounds the display. The rear cover feels slightly delicate and is somewhat difficult to remove if you don’t possess fingernails that are long.
The phone has its measurements, 12.6 x 47 x 108 mm and weighs 84g. The phone features a TFT QVGA display of 2.2 inches and has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels with support for 262k colors. The controls and the keyboard are designed exquisitely and they offer a nice touch. The screen is clear and bright. But the viewing angles of the display are bad and it seems to become hard to view in the direct sun.
The packaging of the phone continues with the green message- the retail box is small and made from cardboard that can be recycled. No user manual is included. Instead, an electronic user guide is available on the mobile. The phone includes some paper booklets: an FCC statement, a GreenHeart promotional slip and an important information guide which are printed on paper that can be recycled. The Naite also features a charger which requires just 0.3kW/hour when connected into a power point when the phone is not plugged.
The key attraction of this phone is the 3G connectivity. Also, you have Twitter, YouTube and Facebook applications, which make a decent set of websites for social networking. The application, ‘Facebook’ is especially impulsive and you have an option to view the latest status updates from your friends displayed on your home screen. The browser takes some time to load the pages and the tiny screen will affect your experience of mobile web.
The phone features a basic camera of 2 Mega pixels with digital zoom of 2.5x that can also act as a video recorder with video clip. The camera has special features like Photo Feeds, Pictures Blogging and Photo Fix. The phone can handle music pretty well by utilizing an impulsive, grouped multimedia menu. This media menu is used by many of the company’s phones and it is quick, functional and convenient for use.
The Naite includes an FM radio with RDS but you will require headphones that are available with the package since a built-in antenna is present. The music player of the Naite supports MegaBass, TrackID, Album Art and PlayNow. The phone does not feature a headphone jack of 3.5mm, The Naite offers an internal memory of 100MB but the microSD card slot is situated beneath the rear cover of the battery.
The phone includes a video player with Video Blogging and Video streaming capabilities. Video calling is also present. You have Picture and Animated wallpapers on the phone. A Voice Recorder is also available in the phone. Special features of the phone are Bluetooth stereo with A2DP, Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, Exchange ActiveSync, EDGE technology, 3D and Java games, USB, 3G HSDPA and Bluetooth connectivity.
The other features of the Naite are a timer, calendar, MMS, alarm clock, SMS, tasks, notes, clock, personal organizer with phonebook, Email, calculator, Instant Messaging and stopwatch. The mobile features 2 applications that are green-centric- EcoMate and GreenCalculator. GreenCalculator will calculate the greenhouse emissions resulting from your normal lifestyle while the EcoMate aims to educate the users on primary issues like conserving power and water.
The mobile phone has a battery lifetime of 13 hours and a standby time of 600 hours. The Naite’s green references are remarkable and the phone appears slightly expensive but possesses marvelous features.
