The Sony Ericsson Yari has buttons and an accelerometer which is used as game controls and fascinating options to use the camera of the phone as a device of motion detection that can track the player’s moves. The manufacturer has provided you a stand to place the phone on it before you start wriggling, jumping and waving. The cell phone features a microSD card of 1GB, a USB cable, a user guide and a charger along with a fantastic design which will attract the youngsters more.

The phone has a 2.4” screen along with ‘QVGA’ resolution. It provides great image quality featuring rich, vibrant colors and can be used in the blazing sun. That is, you have the facility to play any number of games on the sunniest days also. The buttons atop the screen are used as game controls and to summon the ‘game’ menu. But, you may have to use the keyboard for some functions and the keys are smooth and level with the surface and hence are not comfortable.

The shutter of the camera is not good since its very tiny and difficult to press, which does not permit you to take nice snaps. The complete design of the Sony Yari is stunning and will definitely appeal most of you. The handset uses the standard interface of the manufacturer. It is varied, charming and personalized easily by a variety of themes. A new feature available in the cell phone is the ‘threaded messaging.’

The mobile also provides email setup which is automated, to the registered accounts with famous service providers to permit you to compose mails at the earliest. Another new feature that can be set in the ‘games’ menu is the ‘Games Carousel.’ It offers access from the home screen directly to all your titles. You can use the inbuilt accelerometer that can be used to control the gameplay in various titles and sport the right sensitivity or can navigate between the icons using the D-Pad.

Some of your favorite games like the ‘Loco Roco’ are installed in the phone beforehand. But, you can control only two games using the video call camera: Tennis (control of strokes of the racket is possible, not the movement of the player) and Fitness (instructions are provided to perform sidesteps, squats and yoga exercises).Very few games are preinstalled in the phone. Overall, you can have a lot of fun playing games in the Sony Yari.

The phone features a camera of 5 Mega pixels along with a tiny LED flash and the ‘Autofocus’ feature.  Its interface provides generous options like white balance, smile and face detection, numerous presets and effects. The quality of snapshot is fantastic comprising sufficient details and the colors look immersed and very pleasing to the eye. Videos can be shot at VGA resolution at the rate of 24 frames / sec. The colors are very thin, but on the whole, the clips are good and the pictures are played smoothly.

Audio playback is superb but a 3.5mm standard jack is absent in the phone. That is, you need to connect the handset to a wireless earphone or adjust with the headset which is boxed via Bluetooth. The boxed set provides excellent sound quality. The equalizer settings are not classified by their appropriate style, as present in the other cell phones. The phone features a navigational software, ”Wisepilot” which is preinstalled and an inbuilt GPS. The application is nasty and uses the NAVTEQ maps to guide you in unknown areas.

The call quality is great. The phone is provided with a strong battery which has a lifetime of 10 hours when you are getting calls continuously in 2G networks and can last in standby for 19 days. The Sony Yari is an excellent phone with a slider, great functionality and a classic design. The games are good but complex. The phone has enhanced graphics also. On the whole, the phone can be termed as an all rounder with its reasonable price.

  1. I worked for a cell company, I had to troubleshoot all types of phones. But the best way for u to get someone with good knowledge is calling Sony Ericcson customer service when u have your phone available in your hand. They can pretty much tell u everything u need to know.

  2. making it twice as battery efficient as the large display touch screens available..
