Treating Headaches

Nowadays most of the people are affected by headache, irrespective of the age and sex. It is nothing but pain in the head region- above the ears, rear region of the head or above the upper neck. It is caused due to the swelling or tightening of the muscles or blood vessels of the head and neck region. The swelling causes changes in these regions that apply pressure on the surrounding nerves and ultimately cause headache.

There are different types of headache: the primary type is the most common type. It occurs due to stress or for a long period as cluster headache or even migraine headache. The secondary type occurs due to an infection or any trauma, or even metabolic reactions. Some people might suffer from both the types of headaches. There are various causes for headaches, such as: anxiety, arthritis in the spinal cord, fever, continuous coughing or sneezing, excessive consumption of coffee, tea or nicotine. Sitting in front of PC or sitting too close to a television, reading in insufficient light can also cause headache. The common symptoms are: nausea, dull pain in head, loss of appetite, feeling uneasy and even difficulty in sleeping.

Headaches can be cured by various treatments such as:

* Taking a pain killer such as aspirin or anti inflammatory pain killers such as ibuprofen will relieve you.
* Sleeping has been the best cure for headache as it increases the metabolic reactions.
* Apply hot bag on the head or neck region for instant relief.
* Apply some pain balms on your forehead.
* Practice meditation, yoga and breathing exercises.
* Acupuncture can also help in treating headaches.
* Drink lot of water. Lack of water causes dehydration and in turn causes headache.
* Consult your doctor if it’s a chronic or second type of headache.

Following the tips given below will help you to avoid or prevent headache:

* Follow a balanced diet and exercise well.
* Identify the stress factors and avoid these tress factors. Stress will increase the probability of headache.
* Do not strain your eyes. If you get headache due to straining your eyes, then consult your doctor immediately.
* Have proper sleep and insomnia can cause headache.
* Avoid the intake of pain killers as far as possible.

Try some of the home remedies such as: eating apple with salt, almonds, carrot juice and cucumber juice. Avoid intake of curds. Crush onion and apply the paste on your forehead. Putting your hands in hot water will remove the pressure on head. Place your thumb on your forehead and massaging in circular motion will give you relief.
